Welcome, welcome, dear friend… to the Pit and the Pentacle.
You will go mad.
At some point in your life, you will lose your marbles and go completely insane. It is a condition which afflicts your entire family. All your ancestors went mad… eventually… and most of your living relatives are currently residing in comfortable padded rooms. It is either an inexplicable genetic disorder or a cruel gypsy curse (nobody really knows), but either way the upshot is… that one day… sooner or later… you will go mad.
Despite living as a recluse in a ghostly mansion, being a witch and dabbling in the occult… your relative, Agatha, was perfectly sane. She never, in her entire lifetime, succumbed to the family curse. Rumour has it, that many years ago, she concocted a miraculous elixir which cured her own hereditary insanity. Harbouring an intense dislike of her many relatives, Agatha chose never to reveal her secret to anyone. But Agatha is now dead. She lies inside her solid bronze casket within the bowels of the family crypt... beneath the haunted mansion… and with her lies the secret to your own long-lasting sanity.
It is your belief that Agatha’s sanity potion is concealed somewhere within the family crypt… amid the coffins, the bones and the ghosts of your own dead relatives. The exact location of the potion is unknown to you... but Agatha always said she would take her secret to the grave, so it is inside Agatha’s casket where you must look.
Unfortunately, Agatha’s casket is secured by a set of stubborn padlocks. You will require a full set of padlock keys before you can discover the secret housed within. You desperately need that potion, but the contents of the crypt are enough to drive anyone insane… let alone someone with your family history. So be warned… for inside that cold, stone catacomb… the dark realm of madness beckons.
Oh yes… and to make matters worse, the other seemingly sane members of your family will try to beat you to that precious concoction... and thus… preserve their own ever-diminishing sanity.
