A board game scene showing colourful fish, blue sea, dice and a fishing trawler.

In the cool, calm shallows of a Norwegian Fjord… a shoal of infant herring (known locally as sild) quickly mature into fully developed fish. There will come a time when these new adult herring will, through fishy instinct, feel compelled to make their way along the steep sided Fjord towards the open sea.

Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to guide a school of young herring from the inland end of the Fjord into the wide open waters of the Norwegian Sea.

Safety lies within the teeming bosom of the shoal, as those Herring who go it alone or those who get left behind are likely to be picked off by the ever circling seagulls overhead.

Drifting islands of seaweed offer a transient sanctuary from the gluttonous gulls… but darting seals and the occasional trawler’s net may levy a heavy toll on those glistening ranks.

Pray that your precious charges are the most slippery of fish… and heed the wise old proverb, “there’s safety in numbers”.
