A board game scene showing Archaeologists beneath the giant monoliths on Easter Island.

It is Michaelmas Day in the year of our Lord 1924 (Piccadilly, London, England).

As an expert in many fields (archaeology, antiquities and sandwiches to name but a few), you have been invited by the British Archaeological Association (the BAA) (founded 1843) to solve the mystery of the Moai stone statues. The BAA want to know which ancient race of people were responsible for the creation and installation of the enigmatic Moai monoliths on Easter Island.

You will use your incomparable expertise to complete your island survey and on returning home to London you will present your findings to your esteemed peers at the BAA.

Other noteworthy specialists have also been asked to take part in this expedition of discovery. They will be your highly respected and scholarly rivals, as together you attempt to unravel the age old secret of Easter Island.

When you arrive upon the island you should visit and inspect each of the fifteen Moai monoliths. Gradually eliminate your theories until you arrive at a solitary conclusion.

Tread carefully as the island is criss-crossed by ley lines which may bring misfortune to a transient British aristocrat unfamiliar with indigenous lore.

Pearls are the local currency. Use them to purchase from your colleagues the archaeological evidence you require. Observe the customs, rituals and traditions of the local inhabitants and pay particular regard to the unpredictable temperament of the island god, Tiki-Taki. Pay homage to Tiki-Taki whenever you can and always count your blessings (as they are the most valuable of native resources).

Speed is of the essence as each of your fellow archaeologists will rush to be the first to unravel the mystery of the Moai’s ancient engineers. If you fail to eliminate all but one of the possibilities, you will have no option but to make an educated guess regarding the origin of the statues (and risk being ridiculed by your colleagues).

When all is said and done… the world of academia will be utterly flabbergasted, dumbfounded and astonished as the mystery of the Moai is finally and indisputably resolved (probably).
